INFO ABOUT: VICTORIA FLEMING
Born in 1918, Victoria considered herself primarily a china painter, rooted in the long tradition of women artists working both professionally and as hobbyists. Her first foray into jewelry sales was at the Greenwich Village Art Show, a pioneering venue in New York’s avant-garde art scene. Thriving in this creative environment, she later displayed her work on 57th Street.
Her breakthrough came when Mortimer Levitt of Custom Shop Shirtmakers discovered her at a convention. They commissioned her to create elegant French cufflink designs, leading to a successful, long-term partnership. Over the years, her jewelry evolved, focusing on cufflinks and developing a second technique using fused glass on porcelain—layering glass shards atop flat porcelain bases, then firing them to create unique pieces.
